丁羊 · Fire Goat · 6 February 2027 to 25 January 2028
The Fire Goat year begins on 6 February 2027, when the new moon falls, and ends on 25 January 2028. It is the year after the Fire Horse, and the element does most of the work: Fire makes the Goat visible, expressive and a little impatient, where the Goat alone is private, aesthetic and inclined to wait.

What a Fire Goat year is traditionally associated with
In the sixty-year cycle each animal is modified by the element it lands on. The Goat is the eighth branch — associated in folk typology with gentleness, taste, sociability within a chosen group, and a certain amount of worry. Fire is the element of visibility, expression and heat.
Put together, the reading tradition gives a year that is expressive rather than aggressive: a year for craft, presentation, hospitality and public-facing work, with the Goat’s usual caution about conflict now paired to a shorter fuse. The consistent note across commentaries is that this is a year where things done in public — launches, performances, exhibitions, hospitality — fare better than things done in secret, and where the temptation is to over-promise.
That is a temperament sketch, not a forecast. It tells you what kind of year the tradition thinks this is, not what will happen in it.
How each of the twelve signs sits with the Goat year
Traditional Chinese astrology reads a year against your sign through fixed relationships — secret friends, trines, clashes, harms and punishments. Here is the whole set for 2027, computed from the same relationship tables our compatibility matrix uses:
| Your sign | Relationship to the Goat year | What the tradition says |
|---|---|---|
| Rat | Harm · 相害 | Harm with the year. Traditionally the quietest warning of the twelve: not conflict, but a year where efforts can go unnoticed. |
| Ox | Clash · 相冲 | Clash with the year. The classic “opposite sign” pairing — strong pull, opposite rhythms, high maintenance. |
| Tiger | — | No formal relationship. Neutral, and in practice people are more than their birth year. |
| Rabbit | Trine · 三合 | Trine — one of the year’s two natural allies. Traditionally read as a year that cooperates with your plans. |
| Dragon | — | No formal relationship. Neutral. |
| Snake | — | No formal relationship. Neutral. |
| Horse | Secret friends · 六合 | Secret friends with the Goat. The year is traditionally read as supportive — the Goat supplies what the Horse lacks. |
| Goat | Same animal · 本命年 | Your own animal’s year: Ben Ming Nian. Traditionally a year for consolidation rather than bold new starts. |
| Monkey | — | No formal relationship. Neutral. |
| Rooster | — | No formal relationship. Neutral. |
| Dog | Punishment · 相刑 | Punishment with the year — friction that comes from intensity rather than opposition. Rewarding when aimed outward. |
| Pig | Trine · 三合 | Trine — the year’s second natural ally, alongside the Rabbit. |
The four signs tradition flags
Every year, four positions are said to “offend” or “lie against” Tai Sui — the deity whose seat moves with the year. In a Goat year they are:
- Goat — Ben Ming Nian (本命年). Your own animal’s year. Traditionally a year for consolidation: keep the job, finish the project, do not bet the house.
- Ox — clash (冲). The sign directly opposite. Read as the most demanding relationship of the twelve, and the one where plans most often meet an opposing rhythm.
- Rat — harm (害). The quiet one. Not conflict but erosion: work that goes unrewarded, effort that goes unseen.
- Dog — punishment (刑). Friction from intensity — arguments about method between people who want the same outcome.
What “flagged” means, plainly: these are scheduling conventions, not sentences. The traditional response is not to hide — it is to add structure. Sign contracts, keep records, avoid irreversible decisions made in a hurry, and mark the year with the customary red. We do not think a piece of jewellery changes your year, and we are not going to pretend otherwise; the custom is worth keeping because it is a reminder, and reminders are useful.
If you are a Goat
A Goat in a Goat year is in Ben Ming Nian — the year your own animal returns, which happens once every twelve years. Chinese households traditionally mark it with red: red underwear, a red string on the wrist, red socks, given by an older relative rather than bought for yourself.
It is also the year most Goats are told to be careful, which is worth putting in proportion. Ben Ming Nian is a fixed twelve-year cycle, so it arrives for everyone roughly seven times in a life. The tradition’s own logic is not that the year is dangerous but that it is loud: your own qualities are amplified, good and bad, and the sensible response is less noise rather than more.
The dates and the boundary question
If you were born between 4 February and 6 February 2027, the two conventions disagree: Lichun fell on 4 February, so the traditional solar-term count already makes you a Goat, while the Lunar New Year count keeps you a Horse until the 6th. Our calculator shows both. The same applies to anyone born in the first days of any year — see the full years chart.
Questions people actually ask
- Is it the Goat, the Sheep or the Ram? All three translate 羊. The animal is a generic caprid; “Goat” is the most common English rendering and the one we use. Nothing about your reading changes.
- When does the Goat year start, exactly? 6 February 2027 by the Lunar New Year convention, 4 February by Lichun. Both dates are above.
- Is a Fire Goat year good or bad? Neither. The tradition does not grade years; it describes temperaments and relationships. Anyone selling you a “bad year” is selling you something.
